Pianist, Lucy Hwana Lee

 

I am a pianist who started performing on piano at the age of five and have been performing since then and have over 20 years of teaching experience.(1999-Present 2025) I taught students in Music Lesson Central Academy, Washington DC and also opened up my own private studio in Centreville in VA to teach students in the USA. Now I am currently living in Sydney, AUS. I teach students ranging from beginners to very advanced.I graduated from George Mason University, Fairfax VA in the USA with a BM in piano performance, Accompanying, Chamber music and Piano Pedagogy in 2009 and received a Full Jean Cook Music Scholarship. 

 

While attending GMU, I studied piano with Dr. Anna Balakerskaia. She has shared her mastery of the piano around the world, from the great concert halls of her native Russia to the great halls of Europe and the Americas.  Her versatility has made her much in demand as soloist, collaborator and chamber musician. She received her Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance, Pedagogy and Chamber Music from St. Petersburg State Conservatory, where she studied piano with Nadejda Golubovskaia, and chamber music with internationally renowned musician Tamara Fidler.

 I performed in numerous piano recitals while I was attending GMU. I performed Chopin Ballade No.1 in G minor and won the Northern Virginia Community College Performance Competition and received a music scholarship in 2006. I was also selected to perform Beethoven Sonata "Tempest" in All-Steinway Dedication concert at GMU and to perform Chopin Ballade No. 4 in F minor for The Washington Post in 2007. I was selected to be featured in GMU newspaper, Gazette to introduce the All-Steinway School, GMU. I was also selected to perform Beethoven Sonata Opus.109 in the Honors Recital at GMU in 2008.

 Along with a high-profile career as a soloist, since my conservatory days in GMU, I have enjoyed a singular ability for working with string players, collaborating with many violinists and cellists. I performed the Sonata in A minor for piano and violin by Robert Schumann in Chamber recitals in 2007 and the sonata in A major for Piano and Violin by Cesar Franck for Chamber Recitals in 2008.

 I also performed the Rachmaninoff Piano Second Concerto I. Moderato and won the Virginia Music Teachers Association Concerto Competition in 2009.

 My past piano teachers included Dr. Julie Hahn, graduate of Peabody Conservatory, Dr. Anna Balakerskaia, graduate of St. Petersburg Conservatory and piano professor at George Mason University and Darya Gabay, graduate of St. Petersburg Conservatory and piano professor at Levine School of Music.  

 I am experienced as a solo performer, chamber musician, accompanist, conductor and organist.  I have served as an organist and conductor in St. Paul Chung Catholic Church in Fairfax, VA for 3 years. I conducted for the St. Paul Chung Catholic Church Choir in the Annual Concert in 2010. 

I hold memberships in VMTA (Virginia Music Teachers Association) and MTNA (Music Teachers National Association).

Currently I am operating music studios in the CBD of Chatswood and Penshurst,  Sydney. Also, I perform in the great Concert Hall in Sydney and performed for All-Chopin solo recital; Chopin Sonata in B flat minor, "Black Keys" Etude, "Revolution" Etude, "Ocean"Etude in August and All-Rachmaninoff solo recital; Rachmaninoff sonata in b flat minor Rachmaninoff Concerto No. 2, Rachmaninoff Prelude in C sharp minor in September in 2020. 

I have many experiences with entering high grade students into AMEB exams (C-Mus and A-Mus)
